The "Chelveston Remembers", displays were to commemorate the arrival of the USAAF at the Village of Chelveston and airfield Station no 105.
The superb displays of privately owned WW2 Vehicles, uniforms and equipment organised by the great folks at the "Trucks Troops and Stores" military vehicle group, and the people and community of Northamptonshire village of Chelveston , The event commemorates the 80th anniversary of the arrival in the village of the USAAF stationed at former Airfield USAAF Station 105. The station which was turned over to the Mighty Eighth in 1942 saw a number of units, including the USAAF Station Units assigned to RAF Chelveston were: 442nd Sub-Depot 18th Weather Squadron 2d Station Complement Squadron 1059th Military Police Company 1632nd Ordnance Supply & Maintenance Company 876th Chemical Company (Air Operations) 2030th Engineer Fire Fighting Platoon 5th Mobile Training Unit 309th Medical Dispensary 60th Troop Carrier Group, 301st Bombardment Group (Heavy), 305th Bombardment Group (Heavy) its was used into the post WW2 era as a SAC operational base and was closed in the 1970's.
Special callout to Kevin Brigginshaw from TTS for organising this superb tribute event. Also to the "Betts" family with their fantastic USAAF collections and display. This family was instrumental in the early days as one of the many sponsoring donors to the fantastic village memorial at Chelveston, with its magnificent B17 weather vane. This quiet Northamptonshire village with its stone cottages and rural location gives virtually no indication today of the hectic scenes of wartime Britain with thousands of American airmen station at the Airfield 105 and their strategic missions across occupied Europe in support of overall allied Victory in Europe .
